In 2000, the Rockford Preservation Society republished a 1972 book by Lucy Hamlin Houck entitled "The Story of Rockford." This invaluable book recounts most of the history that we have shared on this Web site. The book also includes the names of hundreds of people who were a part of community life here as far back as 1789. 

When the book was republished seven years ago, the RPS added an index of names listed below. However, we know there are many more people with ties to Rockford.
